US firm Cloudflare said a server update had experienced an “internal service degradation” and that some services had been intermittently affected as a result.

Cloudflare provides network and security services for multiple online businesses worldwide, including ShareCast, which was also temporarily affected by the outage.

According to the Downdetector website, other affected companies included gaming and gambling site Bet365, Ikea and Cloudflare itself.

The firm said it was implementing a fix, noting: “We are seeing services recover but customers may continue to observe higher-than-normal error rates as we continue remediation efforts.”

Around a fifth of global websites are understood to use Cloudflare services.
